Indication
Keratoconjunctivitis, recurrent epithelial keratitis, due to herpes simplex viruses
Adult Dose
Ophthalmic
Primary keratoconjunctivitis and recurrent epithelial keratitis due to herpes simplex viruses
Adult: As 1% soln: Instill 1 drop into affected eye 2 hrly. Max: 9 drops daily, until complete re-epithelialisation. Reduce to 1 drop 4 hrly (Min 5 drops daily) for 7 days. Treatment should not exceed 21 days.

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity.
Mode of Action
Trifluridine interferes with the synthesis of viral DNA following phosphorylation. It is active against HSV types 1 and 2 and vaccinia virus.
Precaution
Pregnancy; child <6 yr. Use under close supervision of ophthalmologist. Continuous admin >21 days to be avoided due to risk of ocular toxicity.
Side Effect
Transient burning or stinging upon instillation, irritation, hyperemia, palpebral oedema, dry eye, superficial punctate keratopathy, epithelial keratopathy, hypersensitivity reaction and increased intraocular pressure.
