Santinal MR 200

Introduction
Santinal MR 200 is an antiplatelet medication used to prevent stroke. It is used to prevent blood clotting after heart valve replacement. It also reduces the risk of having another stroke in people who have already suffered a stroke. Santinal MR 200 should be taken as advised by the doctor. You should take it on an empty stomach and at a fixed time. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor. Use of this medicine may increase your risk of bleeding. Let your doctor know immediately if you see pinpoint rash or blood in your vomits, urine, or stool. It may also cause headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and decreased blood pressure as its side effects. If you are going under any surgery or dental treatment then you may need to stop this medicine for some time but only after consulting with your doctor. Before taking it, you must inform the doctor if you are suffering from any bleeding disorder, kidney or liver disease. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and about all the other medications that you are taking regularly.

How to use Santinal MR 200
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Santinal MR 200 is to be taken empty stomach.
How Santinal MR 200 works
Santinal MR 200 is an antiplatelet medication. It works by preventing the platelets from sticking together, thereby decreasing the formation of harmful blood clots.
What if you forget to take Santinal MR 200?
If you miss a dose of Santinal MR 200, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor.
It increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails or using sharp objects.
If you are going to have a surgery or dental treatment, you may be asked to stop taking Santinal MR 200 temporarily.
Headache is a common side effect, but it often goes away after the first week of use.

Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take on an empty stomach 1 hr before meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Adult Dose
Oral Thromboembolism Prophylaxis Post-Cardiac Valve Replacement Adult: 75-100 mg PO q6hr as adjunct to warfarin

Oral Thromboembolism Prophylaxis Post-Cardiac Valve Replacement Child: 3-6 mg/kg/day PO divided q6-8hr

Contraindication
Hypersensitivity. Peptic ulcer.
Mode of Action
Dipyridamole causes an accumulation of adenosine, adenine nucleotides and cAMP by inhibiting the activity of adenosine deaminase and phosphodiesterase thus inhibiting platelet aggregation and may cause vasodilation.
Precaution
In patients with rapidly worsening angina, subvalvular aortic stenosis, haemodynamic instability associated with recent MI or coagulation disorders esp when given IV during myocardial imaging. Hypotension, unstable angina, aortic stenosis. Pregnancy and lactation. Safety and efficacy are not established in childn < 12 yrs. Interaction
Aminophylline may reverse vasodilatation effect. Useful combination with aspirin in prevention of thromboembolism. Efficacy reduced by concurrent admin of antacids. Concurrent use may increase the cardiotoxic effects of adenosine. Potentially Fatal: Potentiates effects of oral anticoagulants and antiarrhythmic agents.
